Questions to Dr. Christina Lampe-Onnerud, Founder and CEO of
Boston-Power
What did you learn from Arthur D. Little?
I learned a lot at ADL and enjoyed very much the ability to contribute to solving significant and complicated problems, which required cross-functional interdisciplinary teams. Many times our case teams were large and very dynamic. I remain impressed by the opportunities we were presented with and with how the teams continued to strive for complete customer satisfaction – I am grateful to all my former colleagues and for the long lasting friendships since my time with the team.
What have been the highlights of your career since leaving Arthur D. Little?
I left ADL/TIAX to start Boston-Power in the end of 2004. 4.5 years later, I am thrilled to have had the guts to do this… we are pioneering new high-performing green battery technology enabling a new era of mobility. The analytical skills, the processes and team-based leadership which is at the core of the ADL culture, have been critical to our success at Boston-Power.
What do you enjoy most about your current position?
The opportunity to provide new innovation that disrupts the old paradigm to enable true mobility. Boston-Power is bringing a new technology platform to market which allows electronic users to buy green technology that lasts more than 1000 recharge cycles and can be charged in 30 minutes to 80%. It has been a lot of work building a company from scratch, but extremely rewarding to work in a team of experienced, gifted and knowledgeable industry leaders. To have HP, who is number one in laptops, as our first recognized customer endorses not only the technology but also the manufacturing and quality systems.
What advice would you give to a young consultant at Arthur D. Little?
Be humble and learn as much as you can from other members of the team as well as from the clients who are inviting ADL in. Be a true team player and be honest about what you can deliver. Reach out to your leaders when you are ready for more challenges and suggest improvements as you see them. Respect timelines and be data-driven.
